Application Developer

  • Role located in Canberra
  • 12 month contract with 2×12 month extension options available

  • A BASELINE security clearance is required or the ability to obtain one

An Application Developer is required to:

    • Undertake activities in all stages of the Software Development Life Cycle including analysis, design, development, testing and deployment;
    • Undertake production support work involving problem solving and troubleshooting errors that arise from the operation of business software systems;
    • Work within a team to support and enable business areas through IT solutions.

The main duties will include:

    • Analysis/Design/Code/Test improvements to Integration Services as directed;
    • System documentation;
    • Software development and change release activities;
    • Stakeholder engagement and relationship management with business and technical stakeholders as required;
    • Assist troubleshooting and problem resolution activities arising from operational incidents;
    • Assist on BAU development on Integration Services applications;
    • Assist with upgrading from SVN to Microsoft Dev ops and build pipelines;
    • Backfill and assist on development project work on Integration Services systems.

The following skills and experience are required for this role.

    • Development of web-based application with experience / expertise in:
      • JQuery JavaScript – preferred;
      • User Interface design – preferred;
    • Java/ JEE/ Oracle:
      • Java / JSF – essential;
      • Web Services (REST and SOAP) – essential;
      • Oracle Application Developer Framework (ADF) – preferred;
      • Oracle DBMS – preferred;
      • BI-Publisher – preferred;
      • Oracle BPEL, BPM – highly regarded;
      • Oracle WebCentre – highly regarded;
      • BPM / SOA experience – high regarded;
      • Experience with business workflow modelling – highly regarded;
      • SOA integration – highly regarded;
      • Understanding of Accessibility and WCAG – highly regarded.

Selection Criteria

    • Experience in delivering projects in a Federal Government environment with proven ability in current best practice techniques such as continuous integration and testing, and agile development.
    • Experience in conducting peer code review and testing.
    • Proven ability to work in a team environment with strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively liaise with business users and development teams together with an ability to mentor other members of the development team.
    • Carry out analysis, design and development tasks for web based applications in accordance with the Department’s web UI guidelines and standards.
    • Undertake analysis, design, development and other ICT related tasks as directed.
    • Conduct testing in accordance with DA policies and procedures to ensure systems are fit-for-purpose and meet agreed business requirements.
    • Liaise closely with the other project members to ensure business requirements and system design issues are fully understood and reflected in the system artefacts.
